The article investigates legal regulation of activity of law-enforcement agencies in the Russian Federation at the modern stage of development. On the basis of the analysis of the various scientific perspectives and approaches, investigation is given to fundamental aspects of problems described in the article; focus is made not only on general provisions, but on the specific features of the legislation in a field of police activity. In particular, the article examines recent changes in the legislation in the sphere of legal regulation of the district police officers, the impact of changes in the number of law enforcement agencies on the quality of work, organizational and structural construction of the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, police interaction with other bodies of state power and local government etc. The authors, studying the problems presented in the paper, give a detailed analysis of official statistics in the activities of internal affairs for the last year. As a result of such an analysis, there are a number of conclusions and recommendations for improving the activity of law enforcement bodies as a whole and their individual units.
