Weapons of Early Bronze Age from Blizhniye Elbany (Based on the Materials of the State Hermitage Museum)
The article deals with the publication of the weapons found in the archaeological sites of Blizhniye Elbany dated from the early Bronze Age. They are represented by ironclad plates, arrowheads and spearheads. The pictures of these objects were once shown in the publication made by M.P. Gryaznov, but since they were demonstrated together with other inventory they never came under thorough review. Moreover, part of those items have not been introduced in to scientific use. The author has examined the weapons found in those sites which are now kept in the State Hermitage. The work represents a comprehensive analysis of each of the items including morphological description and the characteristic of their present condition as well as the detailed pictures of the objects shown in different perspective. The author also provides some analogues which allow us to determine their origin and dating. The two ironclad plates, two spears and two arrowheads thus belong to the Bolsherechensk culture and date to the 7th- 6th centuries BC. The other two ironclad plates along with an arrowhead belong to the Staroaleisk culture and date from the 6th to the 2nd centuries BC.
