The article raises the question to consider municipality as an object of management of economic space. The researchers study essential indications typical of economic space, define differences in terms "region" and "territory" that methodologically complicates studying problems of strategic development of municipalities. In the modern economic conditions, it is logical to allocate not a region, but municipality as an object of management and a minimum element of the regional economic system with administrative resources management and control. In this connection the problem of providing scientific and methodological substantiation and practical realization of forecast-analytical activity of the spatial organization of the economy at the level of municipalities become urgent.
