The Institute of Northern Peoples in 1930s: the First Steps
Construction of new socialist state in 20-30s of the XXth century caused the necessity to train specialists for economical and social spheres of life. Staff for the Far North was prepared in Leningrad, where the Institute of Northern Peoples was founded. Children of hunters, fishermen and nomads, fully supported by the state, studied in the Institute. The curriculum of the Institute took into account the specific style of life, traditions and crafts of northern peoples. Well-known scientists, researchers, teachers worked of the Institute. A lot of talented people, representatives of the northern peoples graduated from the Institute. They made a great contribution into the evolution of economics and culture of their region.
