Metric Books of the Yeniseysk Churches as a Historical Source to Study Small Siberian Towns of the Late 19th — Early 20th Centuries
Nowadays people are getting interested in the metric books as an important storage of genealogical data. However, the books are not only a valuable genealogical and church source of information, but they are the most numerous source to study social history of cities and villages. Every register consists of three thematic parts and contains precious data of the estate system of the society, death rate, birth rate and nuptuality. Parish Registers have the most value, so the article analyzes the data of Parish Registers of six churches of Yeniseysk which recorded the details of baptizing, marriages and burials of local population. These churches and cathedrals are the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral, Spassky, Khristo- Rozhdestvenskaya, Vosckresenskaya, Uspenskaya and Trinity Churches. According to the research data, we can have the descriptions of socio-cultural development of Yeniseysk in the period under study and correlate them with the hypothesis about the peculiarities in the socio-cultural development of Siberian towns. Thus, parish registers can be considered as a valuable source of local history.
