New Historical Demography Abroad: a Brief Historiographical Review
The article considers the main foreign studies that match the definition of “new historical demography”. The term originates from Russia, but the very direction arose as a result of the changes that took place in the foreign historical demography in the second half of the 20‑th century. The review is given of the studies published over the last decade. The above works are systematized and grouped into two groups. The first group included research on the development of the history and current state of historical demography in foreign countries. Most studies show a general trend in the evolution of this direction, and only few studies are devoted to peculiarities of historical demography. One of such studies was also included in this review. The second group included research on the main areas, theory and methodology characteristic for the new historical demography at the present stage. The group presented, mainly, national studies, as well as one international collection of materials, which at the moment can be called generalizing work in the new historical demography. Conclusions have been made on the key points reflected in modern research in historical demography abroad.
