The Proceedings of the Semipalatinsk Department of the Russian Geographic Society as a Source for the Study of the History of Artistic Intelligentsia in the 20‑s the of the 20th Century
The study of a wide range of issues that reveal the history of the artistic intelligentsia in the East of Kazakhstan in the 20‑s of the 20th century, as well as the history of art culture and art of this vast region is impossible to imagine without the involvement of the materials presented in the documents of the Semipalatinsk Department of the Russian Geographical Society (SDRGS). The author analyzes the available published sources on the activity of SDRGS for the period of 1924–1929, to find there the information on the activity of the regional artistic intelligentsia. The analysis of the two groups of sources, which included published in Semipalatinsk XV, XVI and XVII editions of “Notes” and “Report” of the Division in 1925, allowed the author to make conclusions on the special cultural and scientific role of the Department in the life of the artistic intelligentsia of the region in the period under study. The emphasis is laid on the exceptional predominance in the artistic intelligentsia environment of the representatives from the Literature Department over the figures of other artistic disciplines. The article presents tabular data based on the second name list “Report” of 1925, reflecting the form of cooperation between the artistic intelligentsia and the Semipalatinsk Department of the Russian Geographical Society.
