Ceramic Traditions of Barnaul and Biysk Priobye and the Northern Foothills of Altai (Based on the Materials of the Settlements)
The article considers the possibilities to identify the mechanisms of interaction between different groups of the population in the Early Iron Age in Altai on the materials of the ceramic complexes of the settlements. The research of ornamental traditions and forms of vessels reveals the signs, characteristic for Staroaleysk, Kamen and Bystryansk ceramics; vessels with the mixed lines were revealed in the number of monuments as well. The analysis is based on the ceramics from different landscape zones and different archaeological cultures. The comparison is made of the results of the technical and technological analysis of ceramics with the data obtained from the research of the ornament and forms of vessels. As the result, the consideration is given to the steady traditions in the choice of the raw materials and mineral impurities during the process of preparation of the molding compositions for the monuments of the Early Iron Age in different areas. In the northern foothills where the stone was in abundance, crushed stones were added to the molding masses, and in forest-steppe areas with the lack of stones, chamotte was added. The mixed recipes for mineral impurities are characteristic for Lake Itkul which reflects the mixture of cultural traditions, as well as features of territories from which the new population came. In particular, the emergence of chamotte in the foothills results from the contacts with the population from the forest-steppe zones; the appearance of gruss in forest-steppe areas is associated with influx of the population from the foothills. The data of the technical and technological analysis confirm the results of studying of the ornament and forms of vessels and are perspective for further research the of processes of interaction between different population groups, as well as population migrations.
