Lingual Representation of Sound Matter in Modern English
An attempt has been made to disclose the essence of bi-vector lingual objectivization of the frame SOUND. It is proposed to make the notion «cognitive vector» a linguistic term which would denote the speaker’s metalinguistic ability to make a choice from the two lingual stratagems: phonation or audition. Through linguistic observation some essential properties of sound matter have been considered; among them: substantiality, measurability, mobility in space, modulation in pitch and loudness, significance, isolation from the source, combinability, forward and diffusive character. Also, some peculiarities of English phononyms as major lingual units of phononymics have been described; they are: anthropocentricity, heteromorphology, stratification, phasal character, measurability, prototype semantics, metaphorical and idiomatic character, depicting and symbolizing potential, lexical and semantic derivation, etc.
