Some Psychological Characteristics of Cancer Patients and the Peculiarities of Psycho-Correction Activity
The paper presents a comparative study of the effectiveness of the two approaches in psychotherapy for cancer patients: 1) combination therapy: drug therapy, group psychotherapy with blocks and techniques of relaxation, imaging, psychological and emotional self-regulation, art therapy, individual meetings on particular issues through cognitive-behavioral therapy; 2) the same complex therapy, combined with the club therapy: phytotherapy, environmental therapy, music therapy, lithotherapy, hippotherapy, the Bruno therapy of creative expression etc. The test battery consisted of the following methods: The Toronto Alexithymia Scale; SF-36 questionnaire to assess quality of life; the Tsung anxiety and depression test; the Spielberger — Hanin scale reactive and personal anxiety; a test to assess the suggestiveness; the Ch.Osguda semantic differential. All the patients reported subjective improvement in mental state, more pronounced in the second group, which was manifested in significantly lower levels of depression and alexithymia, the optimal level of situational anxiety and higher quality of life indicators. Against this background, most patients demonstrated stabilization of the underlying disease. The obtained results indicate that psychotherapy effect determines the dynamics of personal anxiety level.
