Andronovo Ceramic Complex from Firsovo-XV Settlement in the Upper Ob
The article analyzes Andronovo ceramic series of Firsovo-XV settlement site located in the Upper Ob and studies all the ceramic artifacts collected throughout the whole excavation period (1986, 1990-1992, 2013). Representative sample (1149 items) is employed to analyze the ceramic complex through the following markers: treatment of the outer and inner surface of the pieces, thickness of walls, ornamentation technique and frieze composition; finishes are used to determine shear pattern and vessel neck diameter. The research is based on the works of V.F. Gening, I.V. Rudkovskiy, N.A. and A.A. Tkachev. The analyses of the typology and classification of the the Firsovo – XV ceramic series allowed the authors to identify features of the site house ware. Patterns have been found in correlation between vessels’ forms and ornaments. Peculiarities of ornamentation patterns let the authors address chronology issues. The analysis made it possible to correct the settlement lifetime. The objectivity of existing criteria dividing Andronovo settlements in the Upper Ob settlements into early and late ones is questioned.
