Clergy of Barnaul Parish Churches in the Second Half of the 19th – the Early 20th Centuries
The article is devoted to analysis of clergy structure dynamics in a context of confirmed staffs as well as characteristics of clergy career and frequency of clergymen transfers from one church to another analysis. The source base is parish books of Barnaul churches of the second half of the XIX– early XX centuries. The authors have come to a conclusion that staff of Pokrovsky and Znamensky clergy was similar, however clergy personnel dynamics were similar at Pokrovsky and Peter and Paul churches. Average age of the ordination of the priest was 23–25 years (depending on the church), of the deacon – 28–32 years, and average age of an appointment to the post of the psalm reader was 19–22 years. The reasons that delayed the ordination of the priest might be continued education as well as low level of education. The authors established that frequent transfers of priests from one church to another were connected with personal motives, active temple construction in Siberia and the church status. The research seems topical because church sources have not been thoroughly studied yet.
