Russian-speaking Population of Tashkent Region in «Nationalizing State» (the Case Study of Angren)
This paper aims to analyze ethno - cultural developments in Angren, a town of the Tashkent Region, which lost its industrial status in the1990 and 2000s. The research is focused on the main ethno-cultural characteristics of Russian-speaking community in post- Soviet period, and particularly on its adaptation to social and political conditions of the «nationalizing state». Special attention is paid to the status of the Russian language in education and socio-cultural environment of Angren. Statistical data are used for the first time for revealing migration losses of Russian/Russian-speaking population in settlements (towns) of the Tashkent Region. When assessing this target group, the author draws the conclusion that Russian-speaking population there have retains their previous position in ethno-social life, as well as in information and communicative space.
