Complexly Designed Bokka from Teleutsky Vzvoz 1 Mound Tomb in the Altai Steppe (Technological Aspect)
The problem of interpretation of the unidentified archeological findings is quite complex and topical. Occasionally it takes some amount of time before the research gives acceptable materials, that allows to identify and interpret specific findings. This problem also relates to some artifacts from TeleutskyVzvoz 1 mound tomb, which was interpreted by the researchers as the birch parts of some garment. It has been found that the birch- bark artifacts can be identified as the details s of Mongol female headdress called ‘bokka’. The remnants of birch tops of the bokkas with the infundibular tops have been found at the archeological sites of the south-western Siberia many times. They were identified among the materials of Basandayka, Teleutsky Vzvoz 1 and Blizhnie Elbany VI mound tombs. However, newly identified group of the birch-bark details from Teleutsky Vzvoz 1 mound tomb allows us to testify to the existence of another kind of bokkas in the south-west of Siberia, which is the topic of presented article.
