The methodology of studying the seals of Kolyvano- Voskresensk (Altai) Mining district is being examined. Based on the analysis of different kinds of sphragistic monuments ways of dating the seals, identifying the owner, as well as peculiarities of official stamps research are shown. The author begins by saying that at different times there were different approaches to the study of stamps, and then he emphasizes close relationship of the document and stamp, shows the main ways of attaching stamps to documents. Much attention is paid to the need for a comprehensive identification of stamps. The paper focuses on close relation of heraldry and sphragistics. It gives a detailed analysis of the official stamps. In the end it is concluded that the stamps Kolyvano-Voskresensk (Altai) Mining District form an integral part of the sphragistic complex of the Russian Empire, to which the methodology set by N.P. Likhachev, developed by N.A. Sobolevа, V.L. Yanina and manyother researchers in the field of sphragistics.
