Andronovo Culture People from Altai: Bioarchaeological Research
This paper examines dental and cranial variables useful in reconstructing life-style and health status of pastoral people from the Middle Bronze Age Altay (n=186 sub-adult and adult individuals).
Level and rate of tooth wear, dental trauma, calculus, caries, abscess, periodontal disease, ante-mortem tooth loss, temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis, and torus mandibularis were studied. Besides, enamel hypoplasia, markers of anemia (cribra orbitalia, porotic hyperostosis), non-specific inflammantion, cold stress, and cranial trauma were analysed. The paleohealth profil of some different pastoral and pastoral-agricultural populations from the Bronze Age Eurasia steppe was compared. Both similarity and dissimilarity were found.
