Household and Material Problems of Students in Siberian Universities in 1920th
The students of Siberian universities faced such problems as high tuition, household disorder, low scholarship. The tuition of 50 rubles a year was introduced in 1923. Considering the fact that Siberian students came from the families of workers and peasants such tuition was inaccessible for them.
The main income of students at that time was scholarship. 80-90% of all scholarships were granted by the state. Some help was also rendered by trade unions, public organizations, co-operatives, and even private individuals. But even in that case only 60% of all students got scholarship.
Another problem of the student youth was household disorder. Not every university could provide its students with a hostel. But even if the university had such opportunity, the conditions there were far from ideal.
The solution of these social problems was a back-breaking task for the students. The situation could be changed for the better by purposeful actions of the state, the society, private individuals.
