In the traditional history of Chuvash people the issues concerning generation continuity were of utmost importance. It was exactly moral and norms of behavior which determined traditions, customs and the system of relationships between people in the situations concerning birth and upbringing of an illegitimate child. Chuvash people did not want a child to be born and brought up with no father#s care. Moreover, the birth of a child out of wedlock was considered to be immoral, testifying lack of morality of a mother. All that resulted in a specific attitude to a mother and a born illegitimate child: there were measures, combining condemnation and support to a mother in parenting and child#s upbringing, formed in the Chuvash community.
