One of the main purposes of the forest protection is the defense of forests from fire. The peasantry and temporary armed forest rangers were owed to put out fires in Tomsk province in the middle of 19th and the beginning of 20th centuries. This activity of peasants was the natural responsibility and those who denied doing that were punished. The effect of the fighting with forest fires with the help of inhabitants was low so during this period there was the trend of using only armed forest rangers to extinguish fires. The methods of elimination of fire were determinate by the kind of forest fires. Extinguish was conducted with the foresters. In the whole the forest protection in the forests of Tomsk province in the pre-Revolutionary period was enough effective.
