The article presents the materials on the biography of the researcher of the archaeological sites in Altai — Antonina Antonovna Gavrilova. The author uses the data from the personal record which is stored in the Scientific Archive of the Institute of History of Material Culture of RAS and characterizes the main stages of A.A. Gavrilova’s for mation as ascientist. Special consideration is given to the earlier unknown data which are published in the article. For a long time A.A. Gavrilova took part in conductiong the research on the archaeological sites in Siberia, working together with S.I. Ruden ko and M.P. Gr yaznov. As a result of her research within a framework of large expeditions important generalizations concerning history of the ancient and medieval population have been made. The article characterizes the results of A.A. Gavrilova’s works in the Kudyrge complex and the Katanda-II burial ground in Altai. The analysis of the received materials and the carried-out research was presented in the monograph in 1965. The author notes that A.A. Gavrilova’s studying of archaeological materials has a big importance. The chosen directions of research, the nature of its carrying out have laid the foundation for further systematic studying of the region. Subsequently, A.A. Gavrilova’s conclusions were exposed to the analysis and corrections, however the relevance of the work preserves till the present days.
