Bridle Metal Plates from the Sites of Xiungnu-Syanbi-Zouzhan Time in Altai: Experience of Classification and Typology
The article considers the bridle metal plates from the sites of Xiungnu-Syanbi-Zouzhan time (2nd century BC — 5th century AD) in Altai. The authors analyze the collection that contains 357 copies from 13 bridle sets from the burial grounds Berel, Bulan-Coba-IV, Verkh- Uymon, Cok-Pasch, Stepushka-I, Sary-Bel, Yaloman-II. In the course of the classification allocation was made of 16 types. The typological analysis allows defining the date and genesis of these products. Early modifications (1st century BC — the beginning of the 1st century AD) are presented by types 3, 5, 11. These objects were developed on the basis of samples from horse equipment of Xiungnu. The new stage of bridle metal plates development among the population of Bulan- Kobinsky culture accounts for the 2 half of the 4–5 centuries AD. It reflected the influence of Central Asian fashion in forming of belt fonts. These innovations are shown by types 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 12, 15. Metal plates of types 8–10 and 13 could have been borrowed from the design of local type-setting belts of 2–4 centuries AD. The results of the research do not allow telling l about the uniform line of evolution of the bridle metal plates in the 2nd century BC — 5th century AD.
