Discussion on the Cross-Border Interaction of the Regions in the History and the Present: the Theoretical and Practical Conference of Altai School of Political Studies (Barnaul, September 28–30, 2015)
The paper gives an overview of the discussion that took place at the annual Forum of Altai School of Political Studies held on September 28–30 in Barnaul. The theme of the discussion was designated as follows: “East and West: Regions in Cross-Border Interaction”. The “fulltime” discussion that followed the online conference was attended by the researchers from Barnaul, Chita, Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Kiev, Kirov, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Petrozavodsk, Rostov-on-Don Vladivostok and Vologda. Within three days, there were three sections: “Theoretical Aspects of Cross-Border Cooperation of the Regions”, “International Experience of Cooperation of the Frontier Territories” and “The Experience of Russian Regions in Cross-Border Cooperation.” Each of the 20 presented reports was followed by an interesting and informative discussion. The list of the subjects discussed in the reports was quite wide: from “civilization” aspects of the topic to the specific historical examples of cross-border cooperation between the regions in different parts of the world. Much attention was paid to the so-called “Great Altai” with the intersection of the interests of the four countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China.
