Tools of Tanning Production of Zharkovo-3 Settlement
The work presents the results of the trasological analysis of a complex of the bone tools connected with the tanning production found at the excavation in 2005-2010 at the settlement of the Developed and Late Bronze Age in the central part of the Kulunda Steppe. 27 whole and fragmented products made of bones are subjected to research. The research allowed the authors to distinguish and characterize the groups of the tools found in the settlement: puffins, polished astragals of small cattle, prosplitting, and knives. The specification is made of each of the tools, their functions and use. As a result of the conducted research it is established that the bone tools presented in the materials of the settlement reflect all main stages of the tanning production: from material preparation (a scrape of leather puffins) to the production of clothes and utensils (a fastening of leather by means of pro-splittings and tapes), and also their fair processing (glassing of an astragals of small cattle).
