A Country-Holiday Areas in the Suburbs of Tomsk at the End of XIX — Beginning XXth
A social modernization of Siberian city at the beginning of XXth resulted in a new tendency - to spend holidays in the country. Tomsk, one of the most developed Siberian cities became the center of the whole range of dacha areas. It included not only special dachas (public and departmental) but also special infrastructure in the villages. The main parts of suburban villages were used for country holiday. Basandaika, Gorodok, Pontifical Place, villages Kutashevo, Zavarzino, Rodionovo were the most popular places for summer rest. Railway Department and the Ioann Nunnery Special had their closed holiday areas. Special country infrastructure developed rapidly: summer visitors from Tomsk enjoyed the full board used the telephone and took summer railway coaches to get there. The growth of the suburban country zone promoted a formation of the Tomsk agglomeration. Country-holiday areas near Tomsk were not only a result of modernization but a motivating force.
