Social, economic and political developments of the last decade of XX century and the early 21st century have resulted in the increased of transparency and growing PR activities of local legislative (representative) authorities. Process of interaction between the authorities and the public has become an important form of political communication, related to the ‘information policy’ notion. As a result, the paramount significance in the structure of local representative authorities has been attached to press centers. Research community has been showing a growing interest in the study of various aspects of interaction between local representative bodies and mass media. In this paper we present the analysis of the activities of Western Siberia legislative authorities press centers. The studies conducted have permitted to identify the principal directions of their activity as well as certain functions which are vital for implementation of information policy and actualization of information exchange with the media.
