Formation of Urbonymic Systems of Slavgorod and Kamen
The historic toponymy became the sphere of interactions between history and linguistics. Urbonymic systems in Siberian towns before 1917 have not been an object of the special study. The article is devoted to the formation of such systems in Slavgorod and Kamen. These settlements obtained the status of a city at the same time — at the beginning of XX century. The system of inside-area names in Slavgorod was more modern than the same system in Kamen. While the names of streets in Slavgorod had much in common with the new city of Novonikolaeyevsk, the names of Kamen’s streets had more similarity to the old cities of Tomsk and Byisk. That could be attributed to different histories of these towns (Slavgorod was built from scratch, Kamen developed from the old rural settlement) and to some human factors (such as activity of local authorities) effects. But the toponymy of these towns had a lot in common as well as with neighboring Siberian towns and cities. The system of the inside-area names was formed in Slavgorod and Kamen during a short time. This system was as well-developed as the same system in old towns.
