On the Role of Linguistic Personality in Speech Act: the Linguistic Personality of Warner
The article analyses the linguistic personality of warner on the pattern of B. Obama’s linguistic personality. Threelevel approach of Yu. N. Karaulov is applied to the description of the studied linguistic personality; on its basis: verbal and semantic, lingua-cognitive and motivational levels are distinguished. The first level of the characteristic is formed by the lexicon of the individual and it allows for the description of personal values. The second level presents a language personality’s picture of the world and its hierarchy of values. It is necessary to analyze both generalized notions and complex concepts. The third level of linguistic personality organization reveals communicative and activity-related needs, individual purposes and motives of the person. The study of linguistic expressions only is not sufficient; it is necessary to investigate the interrelation between person’s intentions and its speech behavior. The existence of certain personality characteristics determines the interpretation of the speech act, and the applied approach provides an opportunity to understand the internal organization of the speaker.
