Archeology and Сartography of Tyumen
History of Tyumen, the first Russian city in Siberia, was studied for a long time by written and pictorial sources. In the course of the twentieth century attempts of archaeological study were made, which brought interesting results. Excavations in Siberian cities show that the studies of the town-planning heritage of Siberia are impossible without archeological materials part of which is represented by visual objects. The excavations of 1988 brought interesting findings - the base of the bell tower of the Annunciation Cathedral, the city’s first stone building, the remains of wooden buildings of XVII–XIX centuries, Tyumen first ditch, several cemeteries around long-lost St.Saviour and St.Elias wooden churches, which may be the part of the city’s territory. This circumstances, unfortunately, are not considered by modern civic planners. The purpose of the paper is to compare the given data of archeological excavations with source maps of the late seventeenth century and the early nineteenth century for better understanding of the further archeological excavations in the city and conservation of the excavated monuments, as well as for the proper evaluation of the occupation layer losses. The analysis done in the paper allows to correlate preliminary interposition of prospective objects in the occupation layer with the present map of the city for planning recreation development of the city historic center and creation of memorial zones.
