Study of Darvagchai-Bay-1 Site in the Republic of Dagestan (Geochronological Aspect)
The article is devoted to the results of archeological excavation of the Darvagchai-Bay-1 site. In the course of long-term archaeological survey several culturalchronological complexes of Paleolithic artifacts were revealed. According to preliminary age estimates this archeological site corresponds to a very large chronological interval from the end of Early to the end of Middle Paleolithic. Peculiarities of distribution of stone artifacts in lithologic horizons and their qualitative and quantitative components enables us to draw a conclusion that all Middle Paleolithic complexes of Darvagchai- Bay-1 site could be classified as repeatedly visited shortterm workshop settlements. Early Paleolithic cultural and chronological complex is characterized by weak typological severity and instability of cores and lithic tools. Given specific nature of Early Paleolithic industry, the shape of major groups of artifacts, and based on geological data deposit age we could refer these materials to late Aucheulian culture. Thus, materials from Darvagchai-Bay-1 site allow us to set the sequence and define specific features of the Paleolithic culture development in the studied area.
