Russia’s Policy of «Soft Power» in the Persian Gulf States at the Beginning of XXI Century: Historical Aspects
The historical retrospective of the documentary definition of Russian national interests in the economic, energy and political fields in the interaction with the Persian Gulf States are shown in the article. The major historical stages of formation of the Russian «soft diplomacy» policy in the Persian Gulf region have been analyzed and identified in the article. The main foreign policy tools to promote and realize Russian national interests in the Persian Gulf region have been considered. Major elements of the Soviet Union’s «soft power» policy in the region of the Persian Gulf have been identified, as well as principal methods of expanding and strengthening Russian presence in the Gulf such as educational diplomacy, cultural exchange, public diplomacy, economic cooperation, investment project and other components of «soft power» policy. The world experience has been examined to work out some recommendations for Russia’s using «soft power» policy methods in combating international terrorism and extremism.
