Metonymy Problem in English-Speaking Terminology of Pipeline Transport
The metonymy term formation represents the nomination process which consists of imparting new concepts of special area of knowledge by different nominative means. Analogical transfer is based on the similarity of causal, spatial or temporal relationships. The results allow identifying several metonymic models which help to realize the analogical transfer process. The material of research allows us to allocate 11 composite word models. The most productive ones are: «action — the result of action», «content — container», «container — content» and «action — the object of action». The motivating term representing base for further accumulation of semantics and the reasoned term which is growing out of this building aree chosen as criteria for allocation of models. The article represents the metonymy as an essential way of semantic type of English pipeline term formation. It gives a review of lexical analysis of simple pipeline transport terms. Description of their usage, examples and statistics hereto are given. The main purpose of the article is demonstration of a direct dependence of congeniality of the word on characteristics of its multiple meaning. The central categories in the logical space of professional work are also presented in the article.
