Influence of Trans-Siberian Railroad on Handicraft Industries Distribution in Yeniseysk Province in Late XIX — Early XX Century
The article explores the Trans-Siberian Railroad influence on the distribution of the handicraft industries in Yeniseysk province in the XIX — early XX centuries. The statistical data makes it possible for the author to single out various districts and periods and compare the old settlers’ (starojily) and migrants’ (pereselentsy) enterprises distribution. He supposes that the migrants’ domestic industries and the peasant’s enterprise activities increased in all the districts distant from the railway. The research results support the assumption. The named phenomena became obvious in 1909–1913. There was a tendency of gradual handicraft industries growth in the districts situated very far from the railway and therefore untouched by the railway’s influence. It differs obviously from the spasmodic process in the districts adjoining the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Also the article analyzes the peculiarities of the migrants’ handicraft industry activity, as well as the low level of specialization of the migrants involved into the enterprise.
