On the territory of Western Siberia during the Great Patriotic War and the postwar period, there were three special hospitals for the treatment of POWs and internees: in Slavgorod of the Altai Territory, in Novosibirsk and in Stalinsk (Novokuznetsk) of Kemerovo Region. In this article the author analyzed the main types of diseases and causes of death of foreign prisoners, and the results of medical activity in hospitals. The role of hospitals as medical diagnostic and counseling centers to meet the challenges of reducing morbidity and restore the physical condition of prisoners of war and thus enhance their effective use in national economy of Western Siberia are researched in the article.
