The article deals with forestry works carried out at the forest estate of the Sarov hermitage in the second halt of the XIXth century. It was during that period when the Sarov cloister was flourishing both as a religious centre of the country and as a biggest and richest unit. Forestry was vital for the Sarov hermitage therefore much attention was paid to its effective work. The paper tries to analyze the role of forestry works in the increase of effectiveness of the forest farming of Sarov hermitage during the specified period.
