The problem of studying traditional folk toys Altai as an integral part of regional folk arts and crafts and its continuity in the modern arts and crafts at the moment is extremely important. Technical progress gradually withdraws manual creative work of modern life, thus breaking the continuity of the transmission and preservation of the traditional foundations of the craft. This leads to the novelty of the research. The main objective of the research consists in identification of variety of qualities and properties of natural materials, semantics and equipment of production of a traditional national toy of Altai; continuity of cultural traditions in national arts and crafts of the Altai territory. The research is based on the general scientific systematic approach, which allows applying historical and art criticism methods. The article considers the traditional national toy, used on the territory of the Altai Territory at the end of XIX — the beginnings of the XXI century; analyses the types of the national toy; and reveals steady relations between traditions and current trends in national creativity which are actively transforming now.
