The Discussion about the Social Movements

The article discusses the problems of language category "social movement". We study the history of the phenomenon and note the persistence of difficulties determining the phenomenon and its poorly studied position in political science. The various western and domestic methodological approaches to social movements are analyzed.
Key words: social movements, social activism, social movements of Russia, social movements of the West, history of social movements, sociology of social movements.
