In modern conditions, management accounting as the main element in the information management system forms diverse economic information to support and to make operational and strategic management decisions. In this paper we propose the key approaches to the classification of information flows which will allow to assess the relevance of the information being formed, to avoid duplication and to optimize the flow of information, to determine the relevance and feasibility of the formation of individual indicators. Based on the analysis of foreign and domestic theories of management accounting the refined interpretation of such concepts as "strategic management accounting", "competitive information" is refined.
