Altai Mountains are one of the centers of modern glaciations, a number of glaciers and their area has decreased significantly since the mid-XIXth century. There are the transformation of cryogenic phenomena, advancing up the slopes of the upper forest boundary and thins (60#100 m). These processes are indicators for significant regio#nal changes in climate characterized by increasing annual temperatures at an average of 2.8 °C for 170 years of observations. It is necessary to create the Altay international scientific climate monitoring centre at the base of the Altai State University.
