The work generalizes information on results of archaeological researches on medieval settlements in the Kuznetsk hollow, draws maps and classifies these monuments. The lay-out and functional purpose of objects in medieval settlements and sites of ancient settlement are studied. The cultural tradition in building the place of residence of the medieval population in the Kuznetsk hollow is investigated. The medieval tradition of constructing places of residence is compared with traditions of the previous and subsequent chronological periods in the history of culture of the Kuznetsk hollow. The author fixes continuity and innovation features.
