German Free Entrepreneurship in Altai in the Second Half of XIXth - the Beginning of XXth Centuries

The article is focused on the entrepreneurship of Germans in Altai in the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of XXth centuries including German immigrants in the first generation, descendants of Germans already assimilated in Russia and also German firms. The entrepreneurship is described in the different spheres of national economy: private manufacturing, shipping companies, and trade. The article shows the positive impact of this ethnic group on modernization processes in the region.
