The article is devoted to the generalization and analysis of scientific publications on the problem of mesyatseslov dates using in the chronicles in the XVIIth - early XXth centuries. It covers the major trends in study of this period. As a result one can draw a conclusion that the detailed analysis of all mesyatseslov's dates in chronicles taking into account all the achievements in the sphere of mesyatseslov and chronology study can help to break down contradictions in the dates of different historical events.
