This article examines change of population size in the Altai Territory at the modern stage (1990-2009s). The author presents his original typology of intraregional administrative subdivisions according to their contribution to the total population. The orientation and the character of population dynamics for cities and for rural districts are analyzed with focusing on the territorial differentiation. The author considers the changes in population distribution. The article contains cartographic material.
