Mass transfer related to edge dislocation sliding is discussed in this paper. A method of separation of a nonhomogeneous field of elastic strain (e.g., near the edge dislocation) into dilatational and nondilatational parts is considered. For a plain dislocation pile-up it is shown that the mass transferring during the motion of extraplane exceeds the mass of dislocation by several orders of magnitude.
