The article deals with the major problems of socio-economic development of a West Siberian village during the time of "Khruschev's thaw". The emphasis is put on agricultural development, development of virgin and long-fallow lands, social problems of the village. Taking into consideration the production indices as well as the peculiarities of the state and Communist Party activity, the author exposes the grounds of some problems and failures of economic and social policy of those times.
