Basing on analysis of published and unpublished documents the paper considers the policy of the Russian Empire in a sphere of higher ecclesiastical education. The special attention is given to reforms of orthodox ecclesiastical academies in XIXth - the beginning of XXth centuries. The author reveals the positive features of cooperation of the state with church in ecclesiastic education and problems arising in this sphere.
