The paper considers the development of the first scientific historical chronological school which is relatively called mechanistic chronology. The evolution of chronological mechanistic ideas is traced from the beginning of the XVIIIth to the late XIXth centuries. The paper points out separate strong sides of this scientific approach and numerous drawbacks. Forgotten names of the chronologists of XVIIIth and XIXth centuries are introduced into science and their achievements and mistakes are analyzed.
