Actions organized in clerical educational institutions of Tomsk's eparchy at the end of 19th - the beginning of 20th centuries were described. It was provoked by need to involve priests in sanitary-enlightening and medical activities. This activity was organized by man of faith of the Russian Orthodox Church the arch-bishop Makarii (Nevsky). It was established that representatives of clerical department and medical officers applied great efforts for accomplishment of educational institutions with the help of board and lodging for needy pupils, improvements in medical service and teaching medicine, hygiene and smallpox vaccination as obligatory subjects apart from Synod's program. Getting base medical knowledge gave graduates an opportunity to engage sanitary enlightenment for agricultural population, to render feasible medical aid, to organize small drugstores, day nurseries, to be responsible for sanitary condition of cemeteries and to carry out duties in smallpox vaccination.
