The article is devoted to the problem of the Russian Orthodox Church formation. The formation was going on under the definite social-demographical conditions, for the characteristics of which the sources of church demographical registration were involved - confession writings, clergy registers, birth registers. In the article the functions of the Russian Orthodox Church are considered: support ideas of autocracy and orthodoxy in each generation, satisfaction religious needs of the Russian Orthodox population, Christianization of Khakass people.
