The article deals with the problem of the political role of Greek intellectuals in the Greek states of archaic Ionia. On example of the Milesian geographer and historian Hecataeus the author gives consideration the political activities of the Ionian intellectuals and shows specialties of their relationships with Ionian tyrants, democracy masses and Persian satraps. The author also shows statesmanship of Hecataeus during the Ionian revolt.
