The article deals with the background of teaching historical chronology in higher educational establishments in Russia. In 1815 professor of Moscow University N.A. Beketov became the first teacher of chronology. An anonymous book without any inventory number which was found in the stocks of the library of the Russian Academy of Sciences proved to be the translation of the #Introduction To Historical Chronology# written by Danish scientist D.-H. Heghevish. N.A. Beketov proposed to use it as the first text-book on chronology.
